New York-Presbyterian operates 10 hospital campuses and more than 200 primary and specialty care practices and medical groups. Quest Diagnostics said it has about 30 labs and 2,100 patient service centers in the U.S. “We determined that working with Quest would be the best path-allowing our patients wider access to advanced, quality laboratory services.” ![]() Corwin, president and CEO of New York-Presbyterian, said in a statement. “ New York-Presbyterian and Quest share a belief that exceptional patient care should be accessible to all,” Dr. Nationally, the company serves one in two providers each year, he said. In the New York metropolitan area, Quest serves 16,000 physicians, Davis said. The company will add additional staff and stops to that courier service to support the partnership with New York-Presbyterian. Quest already has a courier service that picks up clinical tests from health systems and physician practices to transport to the Clifton laboratory. ![]() “Health systems can leverage the assets that we have already put in place,” he said. Quest Diagnostics laboratories have a “massive scale,” Davis said, explaining that the Clifton laboratory performs 90,000 diagnostics a night. Sending tests to laboratories outside of hospitals could reduce out-of-pocket costs for patients and overcome workforce shortages, he explained. As hospitals buy more physician practices-and adapt to an increased demand to process clinical testing from those physicians in their labs-health systems have begun to outsource diagnostic work, said Jim Davis, CEO of Quest Diagnostics.
